Aluminum Paste Type Filler Metals & Flux

Aluminum Paste Type

Aluminum paste-type filler metals are used when aluminum or dissimilar metal sheets are to be brazed, and the brazing joint has a complex shape, making brazing with wire-type or ring-type filler metals impractical. They are also applied when the use of flux must be minimized. They are used in vacuum furnaces or atmosphere furnaces.

Flux

Flux plays a vital role in brazing by shielding the metal from oxidation, dissolving existing oxides and contaminants, and ensuring the molten filler metal flows cleanly into the joint. Certain fluxes also provide a visual cue when the ideal brazing temperature is reached. Without flux, oxides can accumulate on the surface, hindering wetting and leading to weak or unreliable joints.
